Dairy Cow Stall Name Plates used at the Oakalla Prison Farm Dairy
Oakalla was in operation from 1912 to 1991 The dairy operation was run by the inmates and the milk, cream and butter produced there was consumed there.
Donated by Allen Forsyth, Burnaby, BC.
It is very common for dairy farmers to name their cows especially in smaller herds and cows get to know their names (as well as their stall). Not many farmers actually put up name plates but if prisoners had time on their hands, as these workers obviously did, then these plates must have added a nice touch.
